Job Description:

At Regions, the Intern works on department assignments while learning more about the financial services industry. As an intern, you will experience Regions’ values while receiving job skills and training, personal development, and networking opportunities. Regions offers college internship opportunities within various departments.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Receives exposure to all basic functions of assigned group within the financial industry
  • Exposed to a wide range of tasks including research, administrative and correspondence work and attend meetings
  • Provides assistance in projects
  • Gains valuable insight within a variety of functions while strengthening core skills and knowledge needed to launch a successful career
  • Responsibilities will vary by internship

This position requires the tracking of time and is eligible for overtime hours worked in excess of 40 per week under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Requirements

  • A college student who has interest in developing technical skills and gaining work experience
  • Ability to work 40 hours a week for 10 weeks

Regions’ Government Affairs team directs the company's legislative, political and regulatory policy activities, spearheads advocacy efforts with various federal and state legislative bodies and executive and regulatory agencies, leads the company’s efforts to communicate with elected and appointed officials at the federal and state levels, and manages economic development in Alabama. Government Affairs also coordinates the grassroots activities of Regions’ associates and manages Regions' political action committee (PAC).

The Government Affairs Intern will be based in Washington, D.C. and report to the office in D.C.  The intern will work closely with the Head of Government Affairs & Economic Development, Public Policy Manager, Regulatory Affairs Manager, State Government Affairs & Economic Development Manager, and PAC Program Manager.

Regulatory Policy Responsibilities

  • Assist with tracking regulatory rulemaking at federal financial agencies
  • Perform research on regulatory policy issues
  • Help maintain contacts on Capitol Hill, in the Administration, and at the Federal Agencies

Public Policy Responsibilities

  • Perform research on public policy issues affecting Regions and the financial services industry, including analyzing proposed legislation
  • Monitor hearings held by the House Financial Services Committee and the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and their various subcommittees as well as other relevant committees
  • Draft background materials for Regions executives in preparation for meetings with members of Congress and regulators

Political Action Committee Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing for quarterly PAC Steering Committee meetings, including drafting documents and charts communicating PAC performance
  • Assist in planning plan virtual and/or in-person PAC events
  • Help create PAC presentations for senior leadership
  • Perform PAC recordkeeping functions

Additional Requirements

  • Current student pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or professional degree in an applicable field including, but not limited to Political Science, Public Policy, Law, History, Communications, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Economics, and/or Business Analytics
