What is the Opportunity?

Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rails and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools and other key destinations throughout the city.

 

As part of the Scarborough Transit Connect project based in Scarborough, Aecon is looking for a qualified Technical Design Co-op to join our team. 

 

Co-op Duration: 8-months

Co-op Start: May 2026

What You Will Do Here:

  • Assist the technical team in preparing and reviewing models, drawings and design documentation.
  • Support coordination between design consultants and internal engineering teams.
  • Participate in constructability reviews to ensure designs meet construction and safety requirements.
  • Help track design progress and maintain accurate records of deliverables.
  • Contribute to design integration across civil, structural, and systems disciplines.
  • Assist with quality assurance checks and compliance with codes and standards.
  • Provide support for design-related queries during procurement and implementation phases.
  • Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.

 

 

What You Bring to The Team:

  • Currently enrolled in an Engineering or Technical program (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline).
  • Interest in rail transit design and infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or BIM tools (Revit, Autocad Civil3D, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Synchro and others) is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Be a champion of inclusion and diversity.

 

What You Will Learn:

  • How a tier‑one transit project translates requirements into buildable designs.
  • Practical application of relevant standards, and transit safety principles.
  • Fundamentals of BIM coordination and document control at scale.
  • How design decisions affect construction through cost, schedule, safety, and the user experience, focus on achieving client and stakeholders expectations in a collaborative environment.
