Brief Role Description

Electrify America’s 10–week Summer Internship Program targets undergraduate students entering their Junior or Senior years who are eager to acquire practical, real-world experience in the automotive industry. This program is designed for high-potential, highly mobile, and self-starter candidates with a strong interest in the automotive industry. Focused on the development of professional and technical competencies as well as on-the-job training, our Summer Internship Program is an excellent opportunity to explore career choices early on.   • 10-week Summer Internship Start Date (non-negotiable): June 1, 2026
  • Program Duration: June 1, 2026 – August 7, 2026

Possible Tasks within this Role

Role Summary:

The Government Affairs Intern will be assisting Electrify America submit a final report to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) covering the 10 years of Consent Decree investments in California. The intern will work on this report, reviewing and pulling information out of past Electrify America annual and quarterly reports to CARB, as well as Electrify America ZEV investment plans approved by CARB, to incorporate into the final report. The report will also include key insights on the industry's growth over the past 10 years, which the intern can gain from research and "interviewing" internal experts and program implementors. The report is not due until Q1 2027, but the intern will help create the outline, framework and ideally complete big sections of the report during their internship.

Qualifications -

Skills:

The intern will gain an understanding of the EV charging market and the unique role Electrify America has played in advancing the state of the industry. The intern will gain and/or utilize research, writing and editing skills, and will gain practice in organizing information in a coherent and compelling way. The intern will also have an opportunity to work across departments, utilizing teamwork and collaboration skills. The intern will also gain an understanding of the regulatory compliance function, how to work with regulators, and what it takes to ensure an organization meets its regulatory requirements. 

Specialized Skills:

  • Strong research and writing skills is desired
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of legislative and/or regulatory processes is a plus
  • Understanding of politics and/or public policy is a plus
  • Knowledge of energy and/or transportation issues is a plus

Additional Responsibilities:

  • The intern will have day-to-day responsibilities working with Government Affairs policy leads to track legislative and regulatory updates. The intern will also keep track of policy-related news stories and flag stories of interest to the Government Affairs team. The intern can also help prepare presentations, 1-pagers and other documents and advocacy materials as needed by the Government Affairs team.

Preferred Major:

  • Political science, Economics, Liberal Arts, Environmental Science degrees, etc.

Days Required In-Office:

  • Tuesday – Wednesday
