ASARCO LLC is a fully integrated miner, smelter, and refinery of copper in the United States with over 2,800 employees spanning across five sites in Arizona and Texas.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Communications Intern who is creative, curious, and passionate about storytelling. This role supports our internal communications efforts, helping ensure employees stay informed, engaged, and connected through meaningful and accessible content.

A key focus of this position will be supporting our cultural transformation project, assisting with communication efforts that help bring the initiative to life across the organization. The intern will help share stories, highlight progress, and communicate key messages in ways that resonate with employees.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with internal communication content for:
    • Internal magazine
    • Intranet
    • Newsletters
    • Social media channels
    • Digital screens and bulletin boards
  • Support and help oversee communications for the cultural transformation project, including:
    • Creating and sharing content that supports culture, engagement, and values
    • Highlighting employee involvement, success stories, and milestones
    • Assisting with messaging, visuals, and storytelling tied to the initiative
  • Identify and pitch story ideas that showcase employees, teams, projects, and cultural initiatives
  • Capture and create content including:
    • Photos
    • Videos
    • Short-form written stories
    • Employee interviews and spotlights
  • Help communicate company updates, events, and announcements in clear, engaging, and creative ways
  • Support distribution of content across multiple channels to ensure employees are informed and engaged
  • Collaborate with the Communications team on brainstorming, planning, and executing campaigns
  • Occasionally travel between company sites to capture content and stories

Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Media, or a related field
  • Strong interest in internal communications, storytelling, and organizational culture
  • Content creation skills, including:
    • Writing and editing
    • Photography and/or videography (basic to intermediate)
  • Creative thinker with a passion for new ideas and fresh approaches
  • Comfortable interacting with employees at all levels and conducting interviews
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects
  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms and digital communication tools
  • Willingness to travel between sites as needed
