About the Role

As a student on the Asset Integrity team, you will be part of a critical function within our broader Asset Integrity umbrella, which includes Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) and day-to-day inspection activities. The Asset Integrity team is focused on maintaining the integrity of equipment and infrastructure across our refining operations. The core goal of this team is to ensure everything stays safely contained within the pipes—protecting both people and processes.

This role offers hands-on exposure to reactive inspections, direct planning activities, and damage mechanism identification. You’ll support communication efforts across the Asset Integrity function and gain valuable insight into mechanical reliability and safety practices. It’s a strong foundational experience for students pursuing careers in mechanical engineering and refining operations. The role will operate out of our Saint John Refinery.

Responsibilities:

  • Opportunity to support long-term projects based on business needs, with a focus on inspection planning and execution

  • Assist in continuous improvement efforts and support initiatives that enhance inspection workflows and safety practices

  • Work independently while also engaging with cross-functional teams to understand inspection processes and contribute to team goals

Your Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Outgoing and willing to engage with others

  • Eager to seek understanding and ask questions

  • Must be comfortable working in confined spaces and/or at heights

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Your Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

  • Must have completed at least 1 year of post-secondary education and be returning to school

What We Offer:

  • Professional Development – Student focused learning & development sessions, mentorships and networking events

  • Student Benefits – Housing allowance, co-op fee reimbursement and parking allowance for qualifying candidates.

  • Work Environment – Work in our refinery with access to a fitness facility, onsite nurse, and a café

  • Wellness Support – With 24/7 access to our Employee & Family Assistance Program

  • Volunteer and donation matching program – Choose when and where to make an impact with a paid volunteer day, company volunteer opportunities, and a donation matching program

Irving Oil is committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment. We thrive on the good energy that’s created when our people from different backgrounds, identities, cultures and experiences share their unique perspectives. Diversity is key to our success and inclusion is everyone’s responsibility.
