Position Summary

 

 Albany Engineered Composites is seeking a motivated Textile Engineering Intern to join our Research & Technology (R&T) team. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in advanced textile and composite materials development within a collaborative engineering environment.

 

The intern will assist in the design, analysis, and manufacturing of textile-based composite preforms used in high-performance aerospace applications. This includes exposure to woven textiles, and the equipment used to produce them.

Interns will receive guidance and mentorship from experienced engineers and will contribute to real-world projects in support of ongoing research and development activities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of textile preforms for composite structures through tasks such as characterization, mapping, and data collection of the complex 3D weaving process.
  • Assist in textile design and analysis using CAD/CAE tools and simulation software (training provided as needed)
  • Help document experimental methods, process steps, and test results in technical reports or presentations
  • Participate in team meetings and provide progress updates to engineers and project leaders
  • Collaborate with engineering staff to evaluate materials, processes, and equipment
  • Follow all safety protocols and demonstrate a commitment to a safe working environment

 

Qualifications

 

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Textile Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Strong interest in advanced materials, textiles, or composite manufacturing
  • Familiarity with basic textile concepts (e.g., weaving, fiber types, material properties) is a plus
  • Willingness to learn new tools and methods (e.g., CAD, simulation, testing protocols)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions

 

Office environment, duties performed indoors, moderate to quiet noise and comfortable temperatures. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions levels. 

 

Physical Requirements

 

Occasionally positions self to move an office item >10 lbs.

Frequently move about the production floor and office area to attend meetings or trainings

Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 75% of the time

Frequently operates a computer, enters data into systems, verifies information, etc…
