Role Description

We're seeking an Industrial Engineer Intern who will support the development and improvement of manufacturing processes by assisting with data analysis, workflow planning, and production optimization. The intern will work alongside engineers and cross functional teams to help reduce waste, improve efficiency, and ensure high quality production. Exposure to Lean Manufacturing methods, process planning, and basic engineering tools will be part of this role. This position is based at our Manufacturing and Warehouse Facility in Burlington, New Jersey.

The Industrial Engineer Intern must be able to work at least 20 hours a week.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Assist the Design Engineering Team in reviewing new product designs and learning how they impact assembly and manufacturing.
  • Support basic analysis of production specifications, time studies, and capacity data with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Help document and plan the sequence of manufacturing steps for production teams.
  • Participate in creating or updating process flows, layouts, and PFMEA documents under supervision.
  • Help evaluate tooling or supplier options by gathering data and preparing reports.
  • Assist in reviewing quality issues and support improvement efforts with the Quality Assurance Team.
  • Observe and document current production processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives within the plant.
  • Update layout drawings or simple CAD files to support efficiency improvements (training provided if needed).
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams on optimization projects and attend project meetings.
  • Help prepare equipment lists, standard forms, and documentation related to tools or production equipment.
  • Support budgeting, scheduling, and supplier communication as part of engineering project activities.
  • May occasionally visit other company locations or suppliers with the supervision of full time engineers.

Education, Experience & Additional Skills


Education

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Coursework or basic knowledge in manufacturing processes, lean principles, or operations preferred.

Experience

  • Exposure to CAD tools (AutoCAD or SolidWorks) and interest in learning time studies, PFMEA, and process planning.
  • Previous internship or project experience in manufacturing, automotive, electronics, or consumer goods industries.
  • Familiarity with automation systems (PLCs, pneumatics, hydraulics) is a plus, but not required.

Additional Skills

  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with data, identify problems, and propose ideas.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Interest in automation, robotics, or advanced manufacturing technologies is a plus.
