About the Role

Applied Composites (AC) is seeking a Composites Intern.  This is a student, or a recent graduate undergoing on-the-job supervised training in preparation of a desired career.  The individual performs a variety of tasks that provide support to the production shop floor.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Provides production support for composite manufacturing in a variety of areas. 
  • Read and follow basic instructions and diagrams in English.
  • Use basic shop math skills to record information such as freezer out-time, or mixture weights.
  • Follow standard shop practices and quality standards in the aerospace industry.
  • Prepare molds using shop-approved release agents.
  • Layup materials to molds and remove air pockets using approved hands, squeegees, and heat guns.
  • Occasionally mix resins and catalysts as specified.
  • Trim laminated fabric. 
  • Perform physical and environmental checks and document work for manufacturing travelers.
  • Builds semi-complex ply-buildups under minimal supervision, ensuring that the plies are well-compacted.
  • Vacuum bag parts applying best practices, ensuring that the vacuum bags do not leak during cure.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required: preferred 20 hours per week. 
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


 Job Specifications:
 
 Education: 
A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma/GED and at least two years schooling pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in aerospace, mechanical, or industrial engineering
Years’ Experience:  0-2 years of relevant work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations. 


 Skills:

  • Possesses high mechanical aptitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions explicitly or innovate, depending on situation.
  • Possesses strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ongoing manufacturing support and engineering insight to other support staff.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement environment
  • Ability to read design specifications and technical drawings.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and to work alongside peers.
  • Ability to manage time to get work completed on schedule
