Position Summary:

Performs general patient care including hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and continuous observation under the guidance, mentoring, and oversight of the Registered Nurse.


Responsibilities

Essential Functions
• Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health.
• Performs advanced skills after achieving demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy); and tracheostomy care.
• Performs increased or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients as assigned and utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist during staff changes or transfer of care for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.
• Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
• Maintainssafety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Ensures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
• Followsstandard precautions. Adheresto Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
• Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team.
• Participatesin handoffreport and conducts purposeful hourly rounding on patients.
• Documentsinformation according toOrlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
• Transports and assists patients through the admission and discharge process. Also transports Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures.
• Maintains a safe and clean environment.
• Provides exceptionalservice and care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
• Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products, and medications (excluding substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
• May have limited accessto areasstoring medications.
• Receives and processesincoming calls, patient calls, and guest requests.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.


Other Related Functions
• Completes all mandatory training.
• Participates in nursing Performance Improvement (PI) activities as assigned.
• Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
• Demonstratesthe knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for the patient population on the assigned unit.
• Possessthe ability to assess data reflective of the patient’sstatus.
• Interprets necessary information to identify each patient’s age-specific requirements.
• Provides care as described inOrlando Health’s policies and procedures.
• Consistently usestime and resources effectively and efficiently.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education/Training
• Enrolled in an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program and preparing to enter the final two semesters or quarter of the appliable nursing program OR completed nursing program and does not have current FL license.

• Completed Senior Nurse Intern competencies.
• Pre-graduation: Proof of continued enrollment in a pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment exceeding
one (1) year.


Licensure/Certification
Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
