About The Company

About the Role

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Massachusetts State Lottery Commission (“MSLC”) Summer Internship Program provides emerging leaders with the opportunity to build a foundational understanding of career pathways in public service through experiential learning opportunities.

 

Interns will participate in weekly professional development workshops, mentoring opportunities, and conclude the program with a final presentation to showcase the insights they’ve developed over the summer.

 

JOB SUMMARY

In partnership with the Office of the State Treasurer and Receiver General (“Treasury”), the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission (“MSLC”) is seeking an intern to join its Credit & Collections team within the Finance department. This position will provide the successful candidate with an excellent opportunity to gain valuable, real-world skills relevant to the operations of a state-run organization with exposure to Accounting, Finance, and professional development opportunities.

Applicants with a demonstrated interest in promoting DEI&B in the financial services industry and students who can bring a unique and authentic perspective to the MSLC are especially encouraged to apply.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide support to the finance, credit & collections and operations teams. This includes accurate accounting of weekly agent invoices and corresponding through mail and electronically with agent requests. In addition, this role oversees collection efforts of any outstanding receivables owed to the lottery ensuring all efforts are undertaken to collect funds owed.

  • Coordinate with licensing and accounting units for the establishment, termination, and changes in agent license status.

  • Provide support to the claims department when necessary. This includes the opening and logging of daily mail, paying mail-in claims and organizing department files.

  • Ensure all relevant inquiries are managed professionally and procedures are followed to help promote reliability. This includes collaboratively compiling and maintaining detailed tracking for shared use by department members.

  • Fulfill additional tasks as required.

SCHEDULE

This is a full-time paid internship from June 1, 2026 - August 28, 2026. Program dates can be flexible based on the selected candidate's school schedule.

 

This internship is hybrid eligible. The hybrid schedule requires a minimum of 2 days/week in the Dorchester office. One of those days must be either a Monday or a Friday. Additional in-person days may be required for training, meetings or team projects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current student of an undergraduate program in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in financial analysis related projects.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to multitask are required to meet deadline driven projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interpersonal skills are required as the incumbent will interact with various company personnel, at all levels, as well as external partners.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • As the incumbent is exposed to confidential financial results, the applicant should have a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
