About The Company
MassDEP serves the Commonwealth by protecting natural resource areas that involve water, land and air. MassDEP is responsible for ensuring clean air and water, safe management and recycling of solid and hazardous wastes, timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources. MassDEP enforces environmental laws, provides technical assistance to cities and towns, issues permits and licenses for activities near sensitive resources, inspects contaminated site cleanups, and partners with other federal and state agencies, municipal officials and environmental stakeholders.
About the Role

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Massachusetts State Lottery Commission (“MSLC”) Summer Internship Program provides emerging leaders with the opportunity to build a foundational understanding of career pathways in public service through experiential learning opportunities.

Interns will participate in weekly professional development workshops, mentoring opportunities, and conclude the program with a final presentation to showcase the insights they’ve developed over the summer.

JOB SUMMARY

The MSLC is looking for Customer Service Interns to support the goals of the Operations and Customer Service Departments. The intern will provide high level customer service support to the agency’s internal and external customers. This internship is an excellent opportunity to build on customer service and sales skills while also developing knowledge of Lottery products and operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Answer telephone inquiries from the general public and agents.

  • Process customer claims for winning tickets of all games and generate prize checks by following MSLC Standard Claims Guidelines.

  • Sell tickets for all Lottery games.

  • Communicate with our agents and customers about our Lottery games and promotions.

  • Conduct marketing activities in our regional lobby to promote and sell our Lottery games.

  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Regional and Assistant Manager.

  • The Massachusetts State Lottery Commission serves the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts though its headquarters and regional offices. Interns may be required to travel to work in any such location as the needs of the Lottery demand.

SCHEDULE

This is a full-time paid internship from June 1, 2026 - August 28, 2026. Program dates can be flexible based on the selected candidate's school schedule.

Customer Service interns are required to report in-person to their assigned office location, Monday-Friday. Remote work options will not be available.

  • Students in all majors will be considered.

  • Must be customer-service oriented.

  • Have a professional and pleasant telephone manner.

  • Strong communications skills are required.

  • Flexibility to adjust work scheduling as needed.
