About the Role

WEC Energy Group is seeking a Renewables Engineering Intern starting May 2026. This position can be located within a reasonable drive to any of our WEC Energy Group locations in WI, IL, IA, SD, NE, and KS, depending on experience. This position offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement (remote/on-site) with time spent in the office. The starting hourly rate for this position is $22.00 with paid company holidays. This internship is full-time during the Summer of 2026 with the potential to work part-time during the fall.

Job Summary

 

We employ students for summer and year-round opportunities to help design creative cost effective systems and equipment that keep the energy flowing to our customers in a safe and reliable manner. WEC Energy Group offers a variety of engineering opportunities for students seeking hands-on experience that are currently enrolled in a four-year degree program. Students work with experienced members of these functional teams.

Job Responsibilities

 

The Job Responsibilities for this position will include some or all of the below based on the candidate’s background/skills:

 

  • Support PV Solar projects, including observing field activities, updating equipment records, and focusing on operational performance and optimization of solar sites.

  • Support wind project operational performance and optimization.

  • Review and revise technical documentation and drawings.

  • Perform ad hoc investigations of emergent equipment issues.

  • Use available data to investigate performance or reliability issues within the solar and wind fleets.

  • Provide general engineering support to PG-Renewables group

  • Track ongoing tasks across sites and support engineers and supervisors

  • Drive continuous improvement by researching emerging utility solar trends.

  • Alternate between remote and office work as needed (hybrid setting)

  • Travel to generation sites in remote locations in WI, MI, IA, or IL

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma, GED, or HSED
  • Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering degree with a graduation date after June 2026.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Interest in Renewables, specifically PV Solar applications, including any course work or involvement within the field  
  • Experience working in a hybrid setting
  • Sophomore standing or higher is preferred

End Date: 03/13/2026 

 

Pay Range Minimum:  $22.00 

Pay Range Maximum:  $26.24 

 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
