General Description:
You will be working closely with the Registered Dietitian in Montclair State University’s dining servicer Gourmet Dining, developing skills and competencies that will help provide you with practical experience in preparing to apply to accredited Dietetic Internship programs. You will gain valuable experience in the following areas: foodservice operations, marketing and promoting of health promoting foods, nutrition education campaigns, menu planning, food safety, and planning and implementation of community nutrition focused events. This internship involves hands on experience in the world of higher education with a focus on nutrition which will guide you to set the stage for your personal success in a career in nutrition.
Qualifications for Nutrition Internship:
• Applicant should be at least at sophomore level credit hour standing
• Applicant should be enrolled in a nutrition, dietetics or foodservice related field in pursuit of credentials, Registered Dietitian (RD)
• Applicant should have no less than a 3.25 GPA in all attempted undergraduate work

- General interest and knowledge
- Attention to detail
- Must be undergraduate nutrition and dietetics student
- Ability to work in-person
- Canva proficiency
Interest in one or more of the following:
- Community Nutrition
- Culinary Education
- Farm to Fork
- Special Dietary Needs (food allergies, intolerances)
Job Responsibilities (May include any or all):
- Assist Registered Dietitian in tabling events, Teaching Kitchens & program development as needed
- Support educational nutrition campaigns
- Recipe creation
- Menu Planning
- Market Research
- Contribute to social media content
- Promote food safety practices
- Executing operational standards
Learning Objectives:
• Demonstrate awareness, understanding and skills necessary to work in a diverse environment.
• Experience opportunities to learn, observe, and practice a variety of nutrition and well-being experiences in the world of higher education and food service.
This internship should not be confused in any way with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics pre-professional internship requirement. This internship will provide relevant on the job experience in the field of foodservice nutrition. This internship does not replace an accredited internship program.
Job Summary
This is a paid intern position; however, it is not eligible for paid time off (PTO) or benefits such as medical, dental, vision, etc.
