Founded in 1973 when Joe Phelps purchased a former cattle ranch near St. Helena in the Napa Valley, the winery now controls and farms nearly 375 acres of vines on eight estate vineyards in Napa Valley. In 1999, Phelps added 100 acres of vineyard property near the town of Freestone on the Sonoma Coast, where Phelps grows Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. About the Role

Joseph Phelps Vineyards is luxury winery business with two locations St. Helena and Freestone California. Our vision is to build and inspire to be the best we can be. As an intern for Joseph Phelps Vineyards, you will grow your knowledge of premium wine making techniques, contribute to making excellent wine and have a lot of fun.

We are seeking a hybrid intern with strong laboratory skills to support key winemaking and vineyard research and development projects.

This internship would begin in August and run through the end of December.

Working directly with the Assistant Winemaker, this person will assist with:

•  Both winery and vineyard sample collection

•  Phenolics testing

•  Fermentation analysis

•  Vine health testing

•  Virus scouting

•  Mapping & data management

•  At least six months of professional laboratory experience OR two semesters of academic laboratory experience in enology or a related field (chemistry, biology, ecology, etc).

•  Strong organizational and data management skills.

•  Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors.

•  Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

•  Stand for prolonged periods of time.

•  Motivated to work in a team or individually.

•  Comply with all safety protocols.

•  Valid driver’s license.

Typical work week is 40 hours until the grapes arrive then hours increase to a maximum of 48 per week. We do not provide housing or transportation but can assist you in finding both.
