The Network Operations and Reliability Internship position resides in the Wired R&D department at CableLabs. This department focuses on wired technologies including DOCSIS, FTTP, PON, and Optical networking, including reliability and performance aspects of these technologies for the cable industry. Our team plays a crucial role in the assurance and operability of these technologies.

 

Why This Internship Is Exciting

You will focus on one to two of the following:

  • Support code development for utilizing DOCSIS telemetry to determine network topology; develop and demonstrate a standardized GIS for the cable industry in support of the network topology.
  • PON lab experiments for PNM - focus on creating impairments in PON networks and developing PNM solutions for operators.

What You’ll Do

  • Attend working group meetings related to the focused tasks

  • Write prototype and demonstration software

  • Write technical reports of the work

  • Conduct lab experiments as needed for project goals

Qualifications


What Is a Must Have

  • BS degree in engineering, statistics, operations research, or related discipline, with experience in software and lab work.
  • Software development experience and knowledge, lab work experience, strong writing and presentation skills, knowledge of networking technology and interest in reliability.

 

What Will Set You Apart

  • Knowledge in DOCSIS and PON networking and testing, knowledge of reliability engineering, and signal processing.
  • Proficiency in at least one of Python, R, or Java.
  • Well organized, detail oriented in documentation, excellent writing and presentation skills.

This job operates in a professional office environment. Working conditions for office environment typically involve indoor settings, often with a mix of standing, sitting, and walking, along with the use of hands and fingers to operate computer equipment. Office workers also need to communicate through various means, including telephone, email, and in-person discussions, and they may be subject to moderate noise levels from office equipment.
