About the Role

A unique opportunity for a marketing student going into their 3rd or 4th year or looking to complete the MacEwan PR diploma program to gain experience in municipal marketing and communications

Devon’s Legislative Services department includes both Economic Development & Tourism (Marketing) and Corporate Communications. Together, these departments manage activities and initiatives related to corporate marketing and communications, tourism, promotions, sponsorship, and public relations.

Our summer intern will learn some of the behind the scenes work that goes into corporate communications including producing Devon’s newsletter, media relations work, managing the Town of Devon website and some basic graphic design through Canva and the Adobe Suite of programs.

If that isn’t enough, there are always new projects that pop up that we will happily throw at you to see what kind of cool ideas you can come up with!

DAILY TASKS INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Support/assist in development of marketing/communications campaigns
  • Support various events throughout summer (Downtown Market, Industrial Park BBQ)
  • Develop/edit newspaper advertisements for the weekly Devon newspaper
  • Planning & scheduling of social media to promote Town activities and initiatives
  • Planning & updating the Town of Devon website
  • Reviewing, editing, and proofreading content for print and website

 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be working towards a bachelor’s degree in business/marketing or entering the practicum component of a Public Relations diploma program
  • Resides and/or attends school in Alberta with an Alberta address - preference will be given to those who reside in or within close proximity to Devon
  • Must be available for full-time summer employment

 DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Outgoing, personable, and able to conduct themselves in a professional manner
  • Out of the box thinking with an ability to generate creative and imaginative ideas 
  • Able to handle and effectively process daily changes in priorities
  • Able to work with a diverse group and handle a variety of tasks in a timely manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as related to marketing/advertising
  • Experience in planning and executing social media
  • Experience in basic graphic design programs (Canva, Adobe) would be an asset
  • An understanding or interest in Economic Development would be an asset
  • Experience with event management and photography is an asset  
  • Familiarity with web design and writing for the web would be an asset

REMUNERATION: $22.54/hr 

This is a summer position starting May 4, 2026 and ending August 28, 2026.

Hours of work - 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (7 hrs/day, 35/week)

The position may require some evening and weekend event attendance for event support.
