Innovation at its Best: Join our Forward-Thinking Company

At CableLabs, we wake up every day to invent the future. CableLabs is a global, award-winning innovation and R&D lab dedicated to keeping people connected by building and orchestrating emergent technology and igniting co-innovation today for the broadband of tomorrow.

The Summer Intern for Quantum Entanglement position resides in the Advanced Optical Technologies Group, Wired Team at CableLabs. Our group works on next-generation optical access networks, including coherent optics, frequency combs, quantum key distribution, entanglement, and distributed sensing. Our team plays a crucial role in the cable industry by advancing access networks, including hybrid fiber-coax (HFC), passive optical networks (PON), fiber-wireless convergence, and other future-proof technologies.

Why This Internship Is Exciting

CableLabs believes quantum technologies in optical fiber will not only revolutionize next-generation data security but also be key enablers for connecting quantum computers into a quantum internet. As a technological leader in optical and cable networks, CableLabs is committed to helping drive the adoption and integration of quantum technologies across the cable industry. We’re hiring the world’s best physicists and engineers to make it happen.

You will have a deep understanding of quantum mechanics, fiber communication, and hands-on knowledge and experimental skills in quantum entanglement. You will help design and build an entangled-photon-pair source and characterize its performance in CableLabs’ advanced optics laboratory. You will also help develop MATLAB code to process the experimental data. You may also learn cutting-edge optical access technologies.

What You’ll Do

  • Work in an optical lab and build an entangled photon source
  • Characterize its performance by polarization tomography
  • Develop MATLAB code for data result processing and test automation
  • System integration of the entangled photon source with existing PON networks

Qualifications

What Is a Must-Have

  • Ph.D. students in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication, or related areas
  • Experience of working in optical lab
  • Experience of using test equipment (oscilloscopes, waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
  • Understanding of quantum entanglement
  • Experimental skills on a quantum entangled photon source
  • Hands-on experience with polarization tomography
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-directed and able to work without supervision
  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas

What Will Set You Apart

  • Lab experience of quantum entanglement
  • Coding proficiency in MATLAB

Working conditions and physical requirements
