BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

This internship will provide firsthand exposure to commercial insurance claims operations and learn from experienced claims professionals while supporting key departmental initiatives. You will also learn why #ColumbiaIsThePlaceToBe!

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Learn the fundamentals of commercial insurance claims, including investigation, evaluation, and resolution.
  • Shadow and meet with claims adjusters and leaders to understand roles, workflows, and best practices.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and discussions related to claims operations.
  • Gather information from claims staff to document existing workflows, procedures, and best practices.
  • Assist with research projects related to claims trends, processes, or tools.
  • Help organize and maintain documentation in a clear and usable format.
  • Support claims department initiatives by tracking tasks, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating small projects or components of larger initiatives.
  • Help identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Draft internal communications, summaries, and presentations related to claims projects.
  • Collaborate with team members across multiple locations using virtual tools.
  • Communicate progress, findings, and updates to claims leadership as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications


  • Must be currently enrolled in degree program going into Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year, preferably with coursework or experience related to project management, research, or process improvement.
  • Exhibits sound critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Outstanding customer service, attention to detail, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Computer proficiency for correspondence, data entry, e-mail, Internet, Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
