The Refinery Accounting Internship (Summer 2026) will provide you hands-on experience and will allow you to apply accounting concepts and principles to develop the core competencies needed to succeed in a business environment. This summer position will take place at the Valero San Antonio Headquarters and will prepare an intern for potential full-time opportunities at a Valero refinery location.

Major Accountabilities in which you may be assigned:

  • Assist in the monthly operating expense close process for a refinery.
  • Learn to utilize SAP BW and other data reporting tools to analyze financial results and provide information to various stakeholders.
  • Assist in other projects typically focused on a detailed aspect of Valero’s financial results.
  • Learn to format and compile data for internal metrics.
  • Follow safety rules and procedures as set forth by the Company.
  • Preparation of the following for refineries and ethanol plants:
  • Operating expense accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and operating expense forecast.
  • Liaison between business services and other groups at headquarters such as capital assets, forecast, planning & analysis, tax, and information services.

Interns may be assigned various different assignments at Valero Headquarters and other projects including potential travel to refinery locations.

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.



  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Accounting required.

     

  • Graduation dates of August 2026 through May 2028 required.
  • Able to work 40 hours for 12 weeks during Summer 2026 required.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio Headquarters required.
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills preferred.
