About The Company
Our mission is to help scientists cure or prevent all disease.
At Biohub, we build the technology to help scientists around the world use AI-powered biology to study how cells operate, organize, and work as part of systems to understand why disease happens and how to correct it.
With unprecedented scale of compute, AI research and engineering, and state-of-the-art technology for measuring, imaging, and programming biology, Biohub is leading the first large-scale scientific initiative to push the frontier of artificial intelligence for biology.
About the Role

Biohub is leading the new era of AI-powered biology to cure or prevent disease through its 501c3 medical research organization, with the support of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

The Team

The Biohub is a group of nonprofit research institutes that bring together scientists, engineers, and physicians with the goal of pursuing grand scientific challenges on 10- to 15-year time horizons. The Biohub focuses on understanding underlying mechanisms of disease and developing new technologies that will lead to actionable diagnostics and effective therapies.

Our Vision

We pursue large scientific challenges that cannot be pursued in conventional environments

We enable individual investigators to pursue their riskiest and most innovative ideas

The technologies developed at the Biohub facilitate research by scientists and clinicians at our home institutions and beyond

Diversity of thought, ideas, and perspectives are at the heart of Biohub and enable disruptive innovation and scholarly excellence. We are committed to cultivating an organization where all colleagues feel inspired and know their work makes an important contribution.

The Opportunity

The Biohub in Redwood Shores is seeking exceptional PhD-level students to join our 10-week Summer Internship Program, running from June 16, 2026, to August 21, 2026. Scientist Interns are embedded within active, interdisciplinary research teams and play a meaningful role in advancing ongoing scientific initiatives. Projects are carefully designed to align with doctoral-level training and to be achievable within the summer internship period.

Scientist Interns will work closely with leading biomedical researchers, research scientists, data scientists, and engineers on cutting-edge research challenges. The program offers deep technical engagement, exposure to cross-functional scientific collaboration, and opportunities to strengthen core professional skills such as critical thinking, scientific storytelling, and research communication. Interns will also benefit from mentorship and career guidance from scientists across the organization.

Available Project Areas (Summer 2026)
Applicants will be considered for one of the project areas below. Please review each summary and indicate which project best aligns with your background and interests.

Structural & Molecular Biology of Organelles
This project focuses on mapping how cellular organelles are organized at the molecular level and how that organization changes in disease. The intern will contribute to hands-on experimental work involving protein extraction, solubilization, and purification of disease-relevant membrane protein complexes, with downstream applications in structural biology and proteomics.
The role is highly collaborative and spans multiple teams, offering exposure to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of biochemistry, cell biology, proteomics, and advanced imaging.
Ideal background: biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, structural biology, or related wet-lab disciplines.

Quantitative Imaging & Advanced Microscopy
This project is centered on using next-generation imaging approaches to study dynamic biological processes in living cells. The intern will support quantitative fluorescence-based imaging experiments, including benchmarking biosensors and generating high-quality datasets to inform biological discovery and technology development.
This work sits at the intersection of biology, optics, and data generation, and involves close collaboration with experimental and computational partners.
Ideal background: biophysics, cell biology, bioengineering, advanced microscopy, or other quantitative life science fields.
