About the Role
<p><strong>Lab Summary:</strong> The Standards & Mobility Innovation team is committed to developing technologies that enable ubiquitous access to information and provide immersive multimedia experiences for mobility users. Our research focuses on:</p>
<ul>
<li>Wireless standards and technology, including 5G/6G, Wi-Fi, FiRa/UWB, MPEG, AOM, CSA Matter, CSA ACWG, CCC, etc</li>
<li>RF & fast prototyping of 5G and IEEE 802 wireless systems and/or use cases</li>
<li>Multimedia standards and technology, including VR, HDR, and All-IP delivery</li>
<li>IoT standards and Smart Home connectivity/sensing technology</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Position Summary:</strong> Join the SMI lab of Samsung Research America to contribute to the development of Samsung's vision of the next generation of wireless communication and sensing technology.</p>
<p><strong>Position Responsibilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Perform research for next-generation wireless connectivity and/or sensing solutions and systems, with a focus on the needs for mobile and smart home products</li>
<li>Take conceptual ideas and convert them into technical requirements and specifications of new features</li>
<li>Design, implement, and verify algorithms, via simulations or prototyping, based on technical requirements and specifications</li>
<li>Work within cross-functional, cross-divisional teams and assist in the design, analysis and performance evaluation from concept to completion</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Required Skills:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Currently pursuing a PhD in EE / ECE or within a relevant field</li>
<li>Solid background in wireless communication areas such as modulation, channel coding, digital signal processing, wireless communication systems design, filter theory, FFTs, synchronization, detection, equalization, MIMO, semantic communication, etc.</li>
<li>Familiarity with wireless connectivity standards, such as Wi-Fi, is preferred</li>
<li>Familiarity with network traffic analysis and network security is preferred</li>
<li>Solid background in sensing technologies and solution development, e.g., radar, LiDAR, acoustic sensing, wireless CSI sensing, Electroencephalogram (EEG), Electromyogram (EMG), Electrooculogram (EOG), etc.</li>
<li>Excellent working knowledge using Python and Python-based ML modules such as Scikit-learn, Keras, Tensorflow, Keras-RL, PyTorch, and Pandas libraries</li>
<li>Experience implementing machine learning algorithms for solving challenging problems, preferably in wireless connectivity and/or sensing system design</li>
<li>Proven skills in the simulation of cellular network or connectivity technologies, to derive tradeoffs and to predict performance in diverse channel conditions</li>
<li>Experience in system or link-level simulations</li>
<li>Ability to clearly define high-level requirements and criteria to be used in the evaluation of air interface technology alternatives</li>
<li>Excellent verbal communication and writing skills to effectively represent the derived results and technical concepts developed in the course of the work</li>
