Software Engineer (Back End)

Our mission is to stop them before they happen.</p> <p>As a Back End Engineer Intern, you’ll join our engineering team to build AI-native systems that protect millions of people and organizations. You won’t be a side project. You’ll own meaningful features end-to-end, ship production-grade applications, and use AI tools daily to move faster and think bigger.</p> <p>Abnormal’s Engineering Division is actively seeking passionate Back End Engineer Interns to join us on this exciting journey.</p> <p>This role is based in Canada.</p> <h2><strong>What You’ll Bring</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Growth mindset: eager to expand impact, responsibility, and ownership over time</li> <li>Attention to detail: care about clean code, testing, and performance</li> <li>Curiosity and collaboration: thrive in high-trust teams learning from engineers, PMs, and designers</li> <li>Communication skills: comfortable working async across global teams</li> <li>AI fluency: ready to explore LLM-powered tools and assistants in daily workflows</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Must Have Skills</strong></h2> <ul> <li>1+ years or 4+ internships of industry experience as a Back End Developer with expertise developing production grade Python, Go, and distributed systems.</li> <li>Understanding of Go, gRPC, and microservices</li> <li>Experience working with LLMs and prompt engineering</li> <li>Experience with AI Developer tools such as Copilot, Cursor, etc.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Nice to Have Skills</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Experience with Application or Network Security</li> <li>Familiarity with AWS services and deployment practices.</li> <li>Knowledge of containerization using Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies.</li> <li>Cybersecurity experience</li> </ul> <h2><strong>What You’ll Do</strong></h2> <ol> <li>Design and Development:</li> <ol> <li>Develop robust and scalable security features using Python/Go and AI powered tools.</li> <li>You will be relied upon to own feature delivery for a Standing Team -- to <strong>design, decompose, execute, and launch</strong>. You will play the role of a highly capable feature lead, able to take a clearly defined business problem, and design a technical approach to implement.</li> </ol> <li>Testing and Debugging:</li> <ol> <li>Conduct thorough testing of applications, including unit testing and integration testing.</li> <li>Use debugging tools and techniques to diagnose and fix issues in a timely manner.</li> </ol> <li>Collaboration and Communication:</li> <ol> <li>Communicate effectively in an async manner with team members to provide updates, discuss challenges and propose solutions.</li> <li>You will be participating in code reviews to maintain code quality and in system design discussions.</li> </ol> <li>Continuous Learning and Improvement:</li> <ol> <li>Actively contribute to knowledge sharing within the team and participate in professional development activities.</li> </ol> </ol> <p>#LI-PP1</p><div class="content-conclusion"><p><br>Abnormal AI is an equal opportunity employer.
