How you could make an impact:
Design & Automation Phase:
This phase includes exposure to mechanical and control system design, automation R&D, and integration of hardware/software components. Interns will work on CAD modeling, system prototyping, and testing using tools like SolidWorks, Creo, and programming languages such as Python.
Special Project Phase (AI/ML & Robotics):
Interns may contribute to projects involving machine learning, robotics, or computer vision, developing proof-of-concept systems/prototyping (3D printing) and supporting internal innovation efforts. Project scope will align with business and engineering team priorities.
Aligning responsibilities would include:
• Design mechanical or robotic components using SolidWorks or Creo and Prototype (e.g. 3D printing, CAM table)
• Develop automated systems with integrated sensors and actuators.
• Desing Python-based automation, AI/ML tools, or data-driven control systems.
• Develop proof-of-concept of robotic solutions or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
• Conduct lab experiments, data collection, system integration, and troubleshooting.
• Document designs and assist with test protocols and results interpretation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across R&D, design, and manufacturing engineering.
What you'll need (Required):
Enrolled in an accredited 4-year University.
Enrolled a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program for the entire duration of their internship, graduating September 2026 or later.
Upon graduating, students are no longer eligible for an internship at Edwards.
Must be available to work full-time from January 2026 through June 2026.
Must be pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
In good scholastic standing (3.0+ GPA or equivalent).
Must not require company sponsorship for an employment-based visa now or in the future.
Must adhere to all company rules and requirements (e.g., pandemic protocols, Environmental Health & Safety rules) and take adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/control
What else we look for (Preferred):
Currently pursuing a degree in Packaging, Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering
Proficient in 3D CAD design software – experience with SolidWorks or Creo is highly preferred
Hands on experience with coding in Python, exposure to automation, robotics, or control systems
Working experience with platforms such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other robotic kits is a strong plus
Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
Experience with automated manufacturing assembly lines is preferred
Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and work effectively in cross-functional teams
Eagerness to apply science and engineering fundamentals to real-world challenges
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation and technical writing
Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively in a fast-paced environment
Detail-oriented with a drive for quality and innovation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project)
Exposure to basic statistical software such as Minitab, or similar tools is a plus
A strong desire to make an impact, learn continuously, and grow in a professional engineering environment.

For California, the base pay range for this position is $54,000 - $72,000 (highly experienced). The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
