About the Role

What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for a summer 2026 intern for our Pleasanton, CA office. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in both technical solid waste and recycling concepts, as well as consulting services through a diverse range of client projects while giving you the chance to explore the beginnings of your own career path.

 

As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on projects centered around recycling, compost, and organics management, technical assistance to businesses, solid waste legislation and policy implementation, and sustainability projects. This internship will offer exposure to multiple stakeholders as our team works with a variety of clients, including jurisdictions, haulers, and other private sector entities. You will typically work 40 hours per week.

How you can make an impact

You will contribute to our projects by assisting SCS project teams with one or more of the following tasks:

  • Solid waste program design, implementation, and monitoring
  • SB 1383 program implementation and compliance
  • Researching solid waste program materials and policies
  • Waste characterization studies
  • Analysis and reporting
  • Technical assistance
  • Outreach and education

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in environmental science or a related field and graduating by June 2028 is required.
  • Must be willing to live in the Bay Area for Summer 2026 (housing allowance will not be provided).
  • Solid technical and computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required.
  • Ability to travel overnight for work outside of an office setting may be required.
  • Preference for candidates who demonstrate a desire to pursue a career in consulting upon graduation.

Pay Range

USD $20.00 - USD $23.00 /Hr.
