About the Role

A Brief Overview

This intern experience will provide risk management experience in a healthcare setting. The position requires collaboration with brokers, insurance carriers, and internal teams to manage underwriting, claims, and loss control processes. Additionally, the intern will assist in identifying and mitigating enterprise risks, and participate in a meetings to enhance insurance knowledge and skills.

What You Will Do

• Support administration of the UH Sponsored Physician Program including responding to requests and queries, CRME (Continuing Risk Management Education) compliance tracking and other documentation as required.

• Assist in the management of the System's commercial and captive insurance and reinsurance programs including but not limited to property damage/business interruption, automobile, general/medical professional liability including the System's captive reinsurance program, excess workers' compensation, cyber liability, business travel accident, aviation, and directors & officers' liability.

• Preparation and compilation of underwriting data, applications, submissions and presentations.

• Participate in strategy setting sessions with broker for insurance programs.

• Learn property claim and adjustment process (including visit to facility, working with insurance carrier and restoration vendor).

• Help to set up loss control visits with facilities.

• Support in the System's claims management processes, including notification of liability claims to the captive, reinsurers and insurers, and assist in the administration of non-liability claims (excluding workers compensation) within System deductibles. Maintain accurate and complete loss runs as required.

• Assist the Vice President, Insurance & Risk Management with enterprise risk identification and mitigation projects as needed.

• Attend RIMS virtual workshop on Fundamentals of Insurance

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct



Education Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Risk Management, Insurance, Business/Finance, Law, or related field. (Required)

Experience Qualifications
• Less than 1 year of experience, which can include part-time jobs, internships, or academic projects (Preferred)

Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated strong organizational, attention to detail and accuracy skill set (Required proficiency)
• Computer skills, including Word, Excel and Power Point (Required proficiency)
• Demonstrated ability to implement and monitor change (Required proficiency)
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with all levels of the organization (Required proficiency)
