The construction of a new salmon enhancement facility in the Upper Fraser watershed is a core initiative of the Pacific Salmon Strategy Initiative (PSSI) which aims to fill a critical infrastructure gap in the region to address conservation and rebuilding priorities for Chinook and Sockeye salmon.  HDR is supporting the Department of Fisheries and Oceans with the engineering of this new facility on the shores of the Nechako River in Prince George.  Construction of the main facility is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2026 and HDR is looking for a summer student to support office based construction engineering services. 

In the role of Water Engineering Co-op, we'll count on you to: 
 
  • Receive and coordinate construction submittals and reviews by discipline leads
  • Coordinate engineering and architectural disciplines
  • Attend and track action items from construction progress meetings 
  • Undertake engineering design tasks under the supervision of others
  • Offer real-world experience on exciting projects
  • Connect with our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals’ programs
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications 
 
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Class 5 drivers’ license and ability to commute to site on a daily basis
  • Previous experience working in a construction environment
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, including drawings and specification
  • Strong safety awareness mindset


Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
