We are currently looking for an Industrial Engineer intern at our Newark, NJ. office The 2026 dsm-firmenich Summer Internship Program will run from June 1, 2026 to August 14, 2026. Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm Join our Engineering team as an intern and gain invaluable professional experience. Your key responsibilities Exposure to work in the production plant while working on a specific project and utilizing their academic background to do data analysis, etc. Development and maintenance of operating procedures Yield variability analysis of a specific process or process step Material balances/heat transfers/unit operations (distillations, reactors) Participate in process optimization studies, efficiency and improvement. You Bring A Chemistry or Chemical Engineering student, in their Junior or Senior year. Must be available to work full-time on-site beginning on June 1, 2026 to August 14, 2026. General or Organic Chemistry with lab Mass Flow/Unit Operations An interest in working in a chemical lab or plant environment. Safety-oriented, flexible, interested to work in a dynamic hands-on production environment. The hourly rate for this position is $23.00 - $26.00 per hour. Compensation will be dependent on factors that include location, education, training, specific skills, and years of experience. At the end of this internship, you will: During the internship, the industrial engineer intern will demonstrate a strong ability to learn by observing experienced engineers, adhering to established operating procedures, and effectively utilizing technical resources such as documentation, process data, and mentoring. The intern will analyze process deviations, and will apply lessons learned to strengthen understanding of chemical processes, safety requirements, and operational efficiency. The intern will exhibit effective listening and oral communication skills by actively participating in meetings, safety briefings, and technical discussions. Strong reading, writing, and technical skills will be demonstrated through the interpretation of process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and standard operating procedures. In terms of organizational effectiveness, the intern will seek to understand how assigned tasks support plant operations and broader organizational goals. The intern will collaborate effectively with engineers, operators, and cross‑functional teams, contributing positively to a team‑oriented work environment. Interpersonal skills will be demonstrated through respectful communication, openness to feedback, and constructive participation in resolving process‑related challenges. Overall, the internship experience will provide the intern with opportunities to strengthen problem‑solving abilities by working collaboratively to evaluate alternatives, support process improvements, and apply chemical engineering principles in a real‑world, safety‑driven engineering environment.
