Do you want to dive into the fast-growing industry of drones and get a rewarding experience in a dynamic scale up environment?
At Flyability, we believe that robots should be sent into hazardous places and dangerous situations instead of humans. To support our belief, we created Elios, the world’s first collision-tolerant flying robot that for the first time allows remote entry to complex and indoor spaces. With more than 130 employees, Flyability is the pioneer in the UAV indoor inspection industry. Joining Flyability is not just taking on a new job, it is seizing the opportunity to improve the life of millions of people and build the future of robotics.
To complete our creative and dynamic team in Lausanne, we are seeking a:
Robotics Engineer Intern – 3D Mapping & Reconstruction (100%)
Starting date: as soon as possible
Your role:
As an intern in the Autonomy team, you will evaluate and develop perception and 3D mapping workflows for indoor inspection drones. Your work will focus on running experiments on real robotic data, comparing reconstruction approaches, and analyzing how system and environmental factors influence the resulting 3D models.
You will collaborate with experienced engineers on experimental setups, data analysis, and validation activities, gaining hands-on exposure to real-world perception pipelines and field data.
What you will own:
- Evaluation and comparison of 3D mapping and reconstruction pipelines using LiDAR, IMU, and camera data
- Analysis of how data capture conditions influence reconstruction quality, such as illumination, sensor settings, platform stability, and data overlap
- Structuring, selecting, curating, and gathering datasets to support systematic evaluation
- Improve existing and develop new reconstruction and mapping algorithms in collaboration with other teams
Your profile:
- Currently pursuing or having completed a Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Vision, or a related field
- Strong foundations in computer vision, such as structure from motion, photogrammetry, or learning-based 3D reconstruction approaches
- Solid understanding of core robotics principles, including sensing, estimation, motion constraints and coordinate representations
- Familiarity with 3D visualization or processing tools such as Blender, MeshLab, or similar is a plus
- Proficient in C++ and Python, with good software engineering practices
- Exposure to ROS1/ROS2 and experience debugging robotic systems is a plus
- Curious, motivated, and eager to work in a real-world robotics environment
- Fluent in English; French is a plus
