About the Role

<h2 class="lumesse-section-header lumesse-section-header-0 jdesc-section-header">Who We Are Looking For</h2> The Development Engineering Intern will be part of the Clearway Development Engineering Team focus on Wind development and project engineering and will report to the Development Engineering Manager. The Development Engineering Team supports Clearway Energy’s pipeline across Photovoltaic, Battery Energy Storage, and Wind from project conception until construction.   This position is part of the 10-week Summer Internship Program at Clearway Energy Group beginning on June 1, 2026.  We are looking for current juniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or Management in Engineering or Construction.  Throughout this summer internship program, you’ll get exposure to real projects and challenges while gaining first-hand professional experience. At Clearway, you’ll gain access to an innovative and fast-paced work environment. You’ll also participate in networking and learning events with your fellow intern cohort.  This is a hybrid role that will be based in the Scottsdale Office. Our hybrid policy is that employees are in-office on Tuesdays & Thursdays.  <ul> <li>Program Timeline: (subject to change) </li> <li>Applications Close: January 30 </li> <li>Interviews: February - March </li> <li>Final Decision: March 31 </li> <li>Program Dates: June 1 – August 7 </li> </ul> Clearway will not sponsor nonimmigrant visas for this position (H-1B, TN, E-3, J-1 etc.) or provide any assistance in support of any other form of immigration sponsorship or benefit including OPT or CPT.  <h2 class="lumesse-section-header lumesse-section-header-1 jdesc-section-header">What You'll Be Doing</h2> The Development Engineering Intern will primarily be responsible for:   Supporting the development of intermediate to advanced stage development utility scale Wind projects.  These tasks may include:  <ul> <li>Learn how to scope and review standard due diligence deliverables required to finalize scope, project costs, schedule, energy output, and risks with an EPC contractor or Developer. </li> <li>Review preliminary Engineering deliverables to ensure the design meets contractual, cost, and performance requirements for Clearway’s offtake customers and financing partners. </li> <li>Write, edit and/or review technical scope of work documents, specifications, procedures, site reports, feasibility studies, proposals, presentations, etc. Help review and negotiate technical aspects of EPC contracts, interconnect agreements, etc.  </li> <li>Coordinate with Development team and external consultants to deliver preliminary design, site plans and equipment layouts, system cost estimates, EPC contract technical exhibits, etc.  </li> <li>Contribute to CEG’s technology roadmap, software tools, engineering capability and project management processes. </li> <li>Conduct site specific analysis to determine environmental constraints and buildable area available for project development. </li> <li>Conduct layout analysis in Geographic Information System (GIS) platforms like Google Earth, and ArcGIS.  </li> </ul>  Supporting or managing various initiatives such as:  <ul> <li>Analyzing and implementing the use of professional software and tools like AI to: </li> <li>Site Diligence Scope of Work Creation: Developing scope of work documents based on layout parameters for more consistent and streamlined planning. </li> <li>Site Diligence Report Reviews: Automating the review of hydrology, topographic surveys, and geotechnical reports to summarize key issues in a standardized template. This would also include calculating associated costs using values provided by our team. </li> <li>Cost Estimating Tool Integration: Exploring visualization tools to read input parameters and integrate with our Excel-based indicative cost estimating tool to produce accurate cost estimates with minimal engineering input. </li> <li>Team Reporting: Assisting in generating reports aligned with our existing templates in Loop. </li> <li>Resource Forecasting: Creating and maintaining a dynamic resource forecast for my team. </li> <li>Energy Model Reviews: Reviewing standardized energy model files to flag key points and deviations exceeding a certain threshold </li> <li>Supporting development or updates to Clearway’s wind cost estimating tool </li> <li>Supporting updates or improvements to a Clearway Energy cost estimate database tool </li> <li>Improving our process for site Optimization to increase project margin across our platform and develop a way to document these improvements. </li> <li>Working with our scope of work and potentially our EPC partners to develop a list of value engineering items that will improve project margin across our portfolio of projects. </li> <li>Assist in technology and equipment assessments to report internally on suppliers, technology, and product viability. </li> <li>Improve and manage engineering dashboards and reports used to report project status to Engineering Leadership </li> </ul>  The Development Engineering Intern will be assigned with an individual project or one of these initiatives based on their experience and interest. They will present results to the team and leadership at the end of the internship on August 4th.  <h2 class="lumesse-section-header lumesse-section-header-2 jdesc-section-header">What You'll Bring</h2> Core Knowledge and Skills  <ul> <li>Basic understanding of wind energy project scope, key equipment, and fundamental awareness of core engineering principles associated with solar and stationary storage projects.  </li> <li>Advanced MS Office and Excel skills  </li> <li>Ability to work well in a collaborative environment that emphasizes attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and working together to achieve company-wide objectives. </li> <li>Intellectual curiosity and an interest in renewable energy. You’re here because you believe in and want to help create a clean energy future. </li> <li>Strong interpersonal skills. You’re willing to ask lots of questions, listen to your colleagues, and contribute your ideas. </li> <li>Self-motivated, dependable, and accountable.
