About the Role

Johnson Controls Navy Systems invites you to apply for a position in our internship program at our Navy Systems Grantley Plant located in York, PA.  Our internship program is designed to provide you with a positive work/training experience and challenging objectives that are consistent with your career goals and current level of education. Specific identified internship responsibilities are outlined below.

The Safety Intern will work with the Plant Lead EH&S Specialist and Environmental, Health, & Safety Manager to assist in day-to-day activities of the department to ensure a safe, healthful, and incident-free work environment.  Interact with departmental supervisors, engineering department and departmental employees daily to solicit, monitor, & champion identified safety issues. 


As an Intern, you will:

  • Review, revise, or author job safety analysis.
  • Review and update machine specific lock-out / tag-out procedures.
  • Conduct personal air sampling to verify employee exposure levels.
  • Assist with accident and injury investigation; determine root cause(s) & corrective/preventative action(s).
  • Participate in daily pre-shift employee meetings.
  • Draft weekly Safety Awareness Messages.
  • Assist in Environmental permit maintenance.
  • Participate in area safety inspections; log findings and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Participate in monthly Safety Committee meetings.
  • Review and update area Safety Data Sheet binders.


What we look for:


  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. college or university
  • Pursuing a degree in Environmental, Health & Safety, or other relevant discipline
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Tools, with emphasis on Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Overall GPA of 2.75 or above
  • Must be able to work onsite supporting a Federal Defense contract which requires US Citizenship.

The primary mission of Johnson Controls Navy Systems is to supply Chilled Water Air Conditioning, Refrigeration Systems and associated equipment to the US Navy and US Coast Guard. Johnson Controls Navy Systems is a part of the Johnson Controls Federal Systems business. Our robust, high reliability products are designed, manufactured and tested in York, PA to military and other stringent customer specifications. Most of our designs are custom engineered for the specific application
