Definition

A summer internship follows the school’s summer semester and is typically eight to twelve weeks long. A summer internship usually starts in May or June and continues through August, although this timing may vary slightly depending on the school the student attends.

Full-time Student Requirement

To be considered for the Summer Internship Program for college and university students, the student must maintain a class load of at least 12 credits per school year. In addition, the student must be progressing toward completion of the degree that has been acknowledged by the student and Spartan. In the event that graduation requirements will be met in the last school year with a class load of less than 12 credits, the full-time requirement may be waived, with written approval from the Human Resources Manager.

Pay

During the work period at Spartan, the student will have a full-time associate status.  As a full-time associate:

  • You will be paid by the hour at straight time up to 40 hours in a work week (Sunday through Saturday)
  • You will be paid at a rate of time and one-half for all hours worked over forty in a work week
  • You will use the company’s electronic time and attendance system to report hours worked

Merit increases

You will receive a performance review at the end of each work period.  If performance has been acceptable and you have had continued good academic standing, an increase may be given. The hourly wage structure is as follows:

Thesis

A Thesis and all other work completed cannot be released without written agreement from Spartan Fire, LLC.

Benefits

As a Summer Intern, you will be eligible for Holiday pay if the holiday falls in your work period scheduled at Spartan. Please refer to the Holiday Pay policy for complete eligibility rules.

If you are 18 years or older, you will be eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) plan to include the employer match. You will be eligible for medical benefits on your 1st day of employment. All other benefits, such as paid time off, educational assistance, will not apply.
