Akins Ford Arena – Guest Services Internship
Department: Akins Ford Arena
Reports to: Guest Services Manager & Director of Event Services



Overview

The Guest Services Intern supports a wide range of event operations throughout including Front of House operations for hockey games, concerts, and administrative preparation. This internship offers hands-on experience across customer service, event coordination, crowd management, accessibility services, and general venue operations within a fast-paced live entertainment environment.

Interns receive direct mentorship, structured learning opportunities, and practical responsibilities in:

  • Guest Services operations and event execution
  • Crowd management, event safety, and emergency procedures
  • Volunteer usher program coordination
  • Hospitality and patron services
  • ADA accessibility and accommodations
  • Customer service strategies and issue resolution
  • Cross-department collaboration with Operations, Security, and Events teams

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Guest Services Manager in executing Guest Services operation for arena events.
  • Support pre-event preparations including staff check-in, volunteer coordination, security and usher briefings, entry setup, and guest flow planning.
  • Provide welcoming, professional customer service throughout events, addressing questions, concerns, and guest needs.
  • Support ADA accessibility operations, including guest escorts, accommodations, and seating logistics.
  • Monitor concourses, seating areas, and entry points to ensure safety, cleanliness, and a positive guest experience.
  • Create and post event signage.
  • Identify and resolve minor customer issues; escalate as appropriate.
  • Participate in internal departmental meetings when schedule allows.
  • Support safety and emergency procedures consistently.
  • Complete data entry and generate reports as needed.
  • Print and distribute event documents, meeting agendas, event briefings, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Ideal candidates are students pursuing degrees in Sport Management, Hospitality, Business, Event Management, Public Relations, or related fields.
  • A cover letter and résumé are required for consideration.
  • Applicants must be eligible to receive academic credit through their college or university.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and operate effectively in fast-paced, public-facing environments.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods.
  • Availability for flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended event days.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screening and background check.
