Tertiary students are provided with practical work experience opportunities to observe and perform tasks under supervision, to complete the mandatory work placement component of their course. 

Tertiary students currently undertaking a major or specialisation in Marketing, Communications, Media, or a related discipline can apply and must outline the placement requirements as set out by the educational provider. The placement will be unpaid. 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING: 

Hume Youth Services is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Placement Student to join our dynamic team. This placement offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in youth services and will give you the opportunity to:  

  • Support Youth Services to review and refine current marketing processes, including branding, communication workflows, and engagement strategies.
  • Evaluate other councils’ social media presence and prepare a short report with recommendations on how Hume Youth Services can strengthen its own digital engagement.
  • Develop short-form video content (e.g., reels) in collaboration with various teams to promote programs, events, and youth initiatives.
  • Create engaging social media posts, flyers, and digital assets aligned with our brand and audience needs.
  • Assist with content scheduling, analytics monitoring, and engagement tracking across platforms.
  • Contribute ideas for new marketing campaigns to reach diverse groups of young people in Hume.
  • Capture photos and videos at programs/events, where appropriate, to support ongoing content creation.
  • Build confidence in communication, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving through practical, real-world experience.
  • Participate in team meetings and planning sessions, offering creative input and learning from experienced youth workers.

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Hold a current Working with Children Check or willing to obtain one prior to commencing
  • Be undertaking a major or specialisation in Marketing, Communications, Media, or a related discipline 
  • Have basic knowledge of social media platforms 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

  • Resume: The application will require a resume. Please create and submit a resume sharing some information about yourself including your skills, strengths, work experiences and areas of interest. 
  • Placement requirements: The application form will ask for details to fulfill the placement requirements. This includes, length of placement, hours required, and what you would like to achieve from participating in work experience at Hume City Council. 
  • Informal Interview: If you progress to the next stage, an informal interview will be organised to see if your goals for placement align with the placement opportunity available. 
  • Student Placement Agreement: If you are offered the placement opportunity, you will need to provide a signed Student Placement Agreement including the education provider’s insurance documentation. 
  • Council’s Employee Code of Conduct: Whilst on placement, you will need to agree to act in accordance with Council’s Employee Code of Conduct.
