The internship position is available for a highly motivated and independent scientist to join the Brancati laboratory in the Department of Discovery Immunology and Ophthalmology at Genentech. This position will focus on developing novel human </span><i><span>in vitro</span></i><span> models to investigate the molecular mechanisms of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).</span></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span><span>This internship position is located in <b>South San Francisco, </b></span><b><span>on-site.</span></b></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>The Opportunity</span></b></span></span></p><ul><li><p><span><span><span>Contribute to a highly innovative project and collaborate productively with researchers across departments at Genentech.</span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Design and perform cell culture experiments to contribute to new model development and characterization using molecular biology techniques, imaging, and bioengineering. </span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Analyze and interpret experimental data to delineate the mechanisms underlying AMD biology. </span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Present findings at group meetings and contribute to scientific discussions.</span></span></span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>Program Highlights</span></b></span></span></p><ul><li><p><b><span><span><span>Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.</span></span></span></b></p></li><li><p><b><span><span><span>Program start dates are in May/June 2026.</span></span></span></b></p></li><li><p><b><span><span><span>A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. </span></span></span></b></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.</span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.</span></span></span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><span><span><span>Who You Are </span></span></span></b></p><p></p><p><b><span><span><span>Required Education</span></span></span></b></p><p></p><p><b><b>You meet one of the following criteria:</b></b></p><ul><li><p>Must have attained a Master's Degree.</p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).</span></span></span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><span><span><span><b>Required Majors:</b> Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, or related fields.</span></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>Required Skills: </span></b></span></span></p><ul><li><p><span><span><span>Experience with human cell culture, iPSC, or organoids.</span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Skills in molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, and state-of-the-art imaging methods, including fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, and image analysis software's.  </span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Ability to work independently, troubleshoot, and design experiments to address key project questions.</span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Driven, passionate, and proactive with demonstrated ability to be highly motivated and work independently.</span></span></span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications</span></b></span></span></p><ul><li><p><span><span><span>Experience in bioengineering or omics technologies.</span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.</span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.</span></span></span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. </span></b></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span>The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California </span><span>is <span>$40.00-$46.00</span> hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
