About the Role

Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s New York City, NY office is seeking a summer intern for the Planning team. Our team provides expertise in environmental planning, entitlements and approvals, transit and rail planning, urban strategy and planning, and urban technology.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare written planning documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports.
  • Assist in site analysis, concept development, feasibility studies, and corridor planning studies.
  • Prepare planning documentation, including narratives, presentations, meeting/outreach materials, and graphics.
  • Conduct field visits to collect data and photograph project sites throughout the five boroughs.
  • Participate in public engagement and outreach efforts.
  • Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner.
  • Provide project management support.
  • Prepare presentation materials, including reports, memos, and project deliverables.

Skills and Attributes

  • Curiosity in the built environment and flexibility to work on various planning team tasks as needed. Critical thinking and confidence to apply this to project work.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experienced and comfort working with Arc-GIS, Excel, Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Rhino. Experience with visualization software, scripting, and statistics is a plus.
  • Fast learner, self-motivated, and highly organized.
  • Capable of coordinating and performing multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Comfort and enthusiasm to work on multi- and inter-disciplinary teams and across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban planning/studies, environmental science, public policy, or a related field.

Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19 to $28 per hour. The final compensation will be based on a

variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
