About the Role
Summary

MyMichigan Health is hiring nursing students for its summer internship program. During the 11-week summer program, interns will gain exposure to clinical situations under the supervision of a nurse preceptor. They will work full time, or three 12-hour shifts per week, with their assigned preceptor (specific times May-Aug TBD). After the internship, interns will be able to apply to become a casual patient care technician until graduation from their respective nursing program. 

 

**Applicants must be graduating from an accredited nursing program in December 2026, May 2027, or August 2027. **

 

Students enrolled in MyMichigan Health student tuition reimbursement program preferred. 

External applicants may still apply. 

 

Interviews Dates: March 2-6 & 9-13, 2026 

Interviews may vary between virtual and in-person. 

 

Offers will be made starting March 30, 2026.

Under continuous supervision of a registered nurse, this position assists with tasks such as taking patient vital signs, transferring patients, assisting patients with activities of daily living, documenting in the health record, and assisting with IVs, dressing changes, and patient assessments.


Responsibilities

(35%)* Demonstrates knowledge of medical/surgical pathophysiology and ability to perform patient assessments with assigned registered nurse.

 

(35%)* Demonstrates ability to perform tasks of taking and documenting vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living such as walking and eating, assessing patients’ skin for abnormalities and caring for wounds, starting and discontinuing IVs, and answering call lights.

 

(20%)* Assists with admissions and discharges in assigned unit. Documents in patient’s health record any treatments and pertinent observations. Provides verbal report to Registered Nurse with each task.

 

(10%)* Stock rooms with supplies as needed and assist with answering phones.

Demonstrates a positive, courteous, and helpful attitude toward patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.

 

 

Develops and maintains good working rapport with interdisciplinary personnel to meet the needs of each patient.

 

 

Remains calm and efficient when working in stressful situations.

 

 

Shares information and reports significant changes and/or abnormal findings to appropriate team member.

 

Other duties as assigned.


Certifications and Licensures

Credential: BLS: Basic Life Support within 1 month of hire or transfer from AHA

 

 


Required Education

Education: High School Diploma and currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program at a college/university with two semesters of nursing school completed

Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

 

Overall dexterity is required, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

 

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

 

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

 

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

 

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

 

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.  Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

 

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

 

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.  May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

 

Physical Demand Level: Medium.  Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
