About the Role

Position Overview:

The Neuberger summer internship in London is an eight-week programme that exposes interns to an interactive on-the-job training environment. Positions vary; each intern is integrated into an assigned department and handles a multitude of daily tasks. Over the course of the programme, interns become familiar with the company’s services, culture and values while learning about asset management and financial services.

We are seeking highly motivated individuals to work within our institutional asset management business, which services approximately $34 billion of client assets out of our London office across a variety of strategies and investment structures.

As a summer intern, the individual will work with the Central Compliance and Marketing Compliance teams in the Legal & Compliance department of Neuberger Berman Europe Limited. With a focus on the control framework and regulatory matters, the summer intern will have immediate and direct exposure to a wide variety of the firm’s business on a daily basis.

The internship presents a unique opportunity to work directly on key projects in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and highly dynamic environment.

Note that this is a 2-month internship, with no guarantee of a full-time role.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Compliance team is responsible for providing compliance advice and support to all levels of staff including senior managers, fund managers, fund oversight, marketing, client coverage, and product development teams. In particular, the team supports the business development teams by reviewing marketing materials for use in domestic and international scenarios, tracks the status of cross-border fund registration, provides training to staff, and performs monitoring of business activities to identify regulatory risks to enable senior management to effectively manage and enhance processes and controls. Key projects and focus areas will be identified for the intern which cover a wide range of the roles and responsibilities within the team including:

  • Support for each of the teams in aspects of their day-to-functions including various aspects of monitoring business activities
  • Assist with drafting new/transitioning existing procedures to the new global Standard Operating Procedure template
  • Review and validate accuracy and completeness of marketing materials and disclaimers database, including for fund information presented on the external website
  • Review and update FCA and SEC documentation and regulatory filings
  • Prepare training materials, and contribute to internal reports for Committees
  • Review financial promotions, marketing materials, client reports, RFPs and other client communications

Key Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Penultimate year of study
  • Legal, Business or Finance qualifications/degree (in progress) desirable
  • Good awareness of financial markets and how they operate
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of stakeholders in order to complete tasks
  • Interest in learning how an investment firm operates with both internal and external stakeholders on a daily basis
  • Ability to work well independently as well part of a team
  • Demonstrates a pro-active approach to challenges and problem solving
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with an attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Aptitude for quickly learning new information systems
  • Proficient using Excel, Word, PowerPoint and database tools
  • Strong mathematical skills
