About The Company
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is a religious organization that combines two traditions: the Universalists, who organized in 1793, and the Unitarians, who organized in 1825. They consolidated into the UUA in 1961. Both groups trace their roots in North America to the early Massachusetts settlers and to the founders of the Republic. Title: ESG Research Intern

Staff Group: Finance

Reports To: Senior Investment Officer 

Location: Boston, Massachusetts (hybrid onsite / remote) 

Job Category: Temporary Internship (~6 months), full-time

Hours/Week: 35 

 

Purpose

Analyzing and reporting on ESG (Environmental, Societal and factors, supporting company advocacy, and engaging with community investments in the context of a sophisticated endowment fund.

Principal Responsibilities

  • ESG Reporting and Analysis: 
    1. Produce reports and analyses on the Community Endowment Fund's (CEF) carbon footprint, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) exposures, and proxy voting activities. 
  • Advocacy Support: 
    1. Maintain records and provide backup analysis/research for the CEF's company advocacy activities. 
  • Community Investment Research: 
    1. Research and present updates on select CEF community investments. 
  • Manager Commentary Review: 
    1. Ensure receipt and review of all ongoing CEF manager commentaries and reports. 
  • Performs other duties for the Common Endowment Fund as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications

This is a non-exempt position with an hourly midpoint of $20. Compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and geographical location, with offers potentially ranging from 10-15% higher or lower than the midpoint. Note that qualifications may be met as a result of lived experience, volunteer work, professional experience, and/or formal or informal training. Requirements include:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, preferably in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field. 
  • Strong analytical and research skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. 
  • Demonstrated interest in ESG principles and sustainable finance. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Understanding of issues around anti-racism, anti-oppression, and multiculturalism 
  • Work or lived experience with BIPOC communities is of particular value 
  • Eagerness to work in an organization in which the dismantling of white supremacy is a high priority
