Westinghouse is looking for Technical and Engineering Industrial Placement Students to support the following disciplines within the Fuels Growth Technical Team in academic year 2026/2027.

 

 

Process Engineering – Support the design and development of a diverse portfolio new plants and opportunities from bid phase to delivery.

Systems/Network Engineering – Provide insight into both physical and virtual networks involving material tracking and Instrumentation and Control interfaces.

Nuclear Chemistry Placements – Apply a fundamental chemical understanding of the nuclear fuel cycle to improve technical solutions.

 

As an Industrial Placement Student, you will join the EMEA Nuclear Fuel New Business team in the UK and complete their placement at Springfields, our nuclear fuel manufacture facility located near Preston, Lancashire, UK.

You will collaborate with engineers and technical specialists to help deliver technical and engineering tasks across a range of commercial projects. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to both non‑standard engineering design work and the application of established tools to complex chemical processes, guided by more senior engineers. Additionally, you will develop and maintain working relationships with design teams to ensure smooth project delivery.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to Westinghouse's nuclear safety culture and follow all company policies.

  • Support the team in understanding customer needs and developing technical solutions across the full project lifecycle. This includes contributing to option assessments, technical proposals, reviews, and a variety of project documents.

  • Develop positive working relationships with team members, internal partners, clients, and collaborating organisations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant engineering or science degree – e.g. those related to Chemistry, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Systems, or Environmental engineering. We will also consider other disciplines.

  • Must be over 18 years of age.

  • Must already be eligible to work in the UK legally.

  • Willingness to work for a 12-month period starting August-September 2026 (start date flexible).
