About the Role
<h1>The SPLC is seeking a highly motivated Development Systems & Data Integrity Summer Intern who is passionate about data quality, technical systems, and supporting mission-driven work!</h1>

<p>The Southern Poverty Law Center offers internships to exceptional students enrolled in accredited undergraduate and graduate schools who possess strong academic backgrounds, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to public interest work. The Center is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. As an internationally recognized nonprofit organization, the Center is dedicated to reducing bigotry and oppression through outreach, public education, litigation and policy advocacy.</p>
<h1>Who You Are</h1>
<p><strong>Detail-Oriented.</strong> Strong attention to detail with a passion for data accuracy, quality, and integrity in technical systems.</p>
<p><strong>Technical.</strong> Basic understanding of software development concepts, system workflows, databases, and data validation principles.</p>
<p><strong>Problem-Solver.</strong> Ability to identify and escalate data anomalies, inconsistencies, or process gaps, and contribute to system reliability improvements.</p>
<p><strong>Organized.</strong> Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to maintain documentation, timelines, and task lists.</p>
<p><strong>Collaborative. </strong>Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams as well as independently to support development operations.</p>
<p><strong>Mission, Vision & Culture Alignment. </strong>Demonstrates an understanding of and a commitment to SPLC's mission, vision and values.</p>
<h1>What You'll Do</h1>
<p><strong>Support</strong> implementation and monitoring of data integrity checks, audits, and reconciliation processes.</p>
<p><strong>Assist</strong> with validating data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across development and operational systems.</p>
<p><strong>Assist </strong>in documenting data flows, dependencies, and system interfaces to improve traceability.</p>
<p><strong>Participate </strong>in incident reviews and contribute to system reliability improvements.</p>
<p><strong>Identify</strong> and escalate data anomalies, inconsistencies, or process gaps.</p>
<p><strong>Support </strong>version control and change management for schemas, configurations, and system data.</p>
<p><strong>Assist</strong> in planning and tracking technical projects related to development systems, operations, or data quality.</p>
<p><strong>Maintain </strong>project documentation, timelines, task lists, and status updates.</p>
<p><strong>Assist</strong> the project manager with ensuring projects stay on schedule and risks or blockers are clearly communicated.</p>
<p><strong>Perform</strong> other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.</p>

<h1>Minimum Qualifications</h1>

<ul>
<li>Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field;</li>
<li>Strong academic background;</li>
<li>Strong attention to detail and interest in data accuracy and quality;</li>
<li>Basic understanding of software development concepts and system workflows; and</li>
<li>Strong organizational and communication skills.</li>
</ul>
<h1>Compensation & Benefits</h1>
<p>The Center pays $17.95 per hour. Interns are expected to work 40 hours a week and there may be opportunity for supervisor approved overtime.</p>
<h1>Where and How You'll Work</h1>
<p>This role has the following work designation:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Local Remote (Montgomery or Atlanta office): </strong>Will work remotely but is expected to attend work-related<strong> </strong>activities that occur at the SPLC offices or in the states in which the SPLC operates.</li>
<li><strong>Telework (Montgomery or Atlanta office)</strong>: Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.</li>
<li>This position will report to the Director, Development - Systems & Operations.</li>
</ul>
<h1>Other Special Considerations</h1>
<p>This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.</p>
<p>Due to the high volume of applications received, we are unable to respond to inquiries by telephone.</p>
<p>Interns are expected to begin on June 1<sup>st</sup>, 2026 A minimum commitment of ten consecutive weeks is expected. We unfortunately are not able to split summers.</p>
