Job Title: Outreach Intern, Best Buddies Living

Department:  State Operations & Programs

Reports to: Director, Best Buddies Living

# of direct reports: 0

Salary range: Unpaid


 Commitment: 
10 to 20 hours per week, as needed/as intern is available; remote (0% travel required)

Classification: non-exempt

Position overview: The Outreach Intern will operate in tandem with each of Best Buddies Living’s Residential Managers to identify upcoming program vacancies and work to ensure minimal gaps in program participation. The Outreach Intern will utilize established online recruiting strategies and will creatively brainstorm innovative recruitment campaigns.

Value proposition: The Outreach Intern will gain first-hand experience working within an established international non-profit organization, with opportunities to learn established procedures and best practices while being afforded the freedom to creatively solve problems and create new initiatives. The Outreach Intern will have a major role in connecting essential residential services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Outreach Intern will have consistent opportunities to meet and network with professionals in the non-profit and disability field.

Internship hours may be approved for academic credit, practicum hours, or required coursework.

Preferred qualifications – qualified applicants should have:

  • Strong initiative, drive for results, and self-assessment skills
  • Strong project management skills - including planning, analysis, decision making, and problem solving and willingness to multitask 
  • Must be highly dependable and lead by example and be willing/able to adapt communication style to fit the situation and facilitate cross-departmental strategies 
  • Strong persuasive writing and presentation skills with the ability to exert influence, inspire others, and articulate the mission, goals, and activities of Best Buddies with passion and enthusiasm 
  • Strong written communication and project/time management skills, including attention to detail 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Basic understanding of social media and familiarity with Microsoft Office 
  • Must be engaging and comfortable meeting new people

 

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

 

Programs

  • Collaborate with Residential Managers to identify potential residents and host informational sessions for new Best Buddies Living locations.
  • Coordinate and attend virtual interviews, taking notes and assisting in evaluating applicants' suitability for the program.
  • Maintain communication with local Best Buddies program staff to identify potential residents and community needs

Marketing

  • Create engaging content for social media and email campaigns to attract college students, young professionals, and current Best Buddies participants.
  • Generate and monitor apartment rental listings on platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist to maximize visibility.
