Position Summary

The Project Management Intern will support the Project Management Office by assisting with both operational and infrastructure-related projects across the hospital. This role provides hands-on experience with clinical workflow improvements, project planning, and facility development initiatives such as new clinic builds and departmental remodels.

Working directly under the Director of the PMO, the intern will gain exposure to cross-functional hospital teams, leadership decision-making, and practical project management methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Project Support

  • Support planning, documentation, and execution of hospital operational improvement projects.
  • Assist in workflow mapping, process analysis, and development of recommendations.
  • Gather and analyze data to support operational decision‑making.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings; capture minutes and track action items.
  • Prepare progress reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership review.

Infrastructure & Facility Project Support

  • Assist in coordinating construction, remodeling, and clinic expansion projects.
  • Help track project timelines, budgets, and milestones.
  • Support communication between clinical teams, facilities/engineering, contractors, and vendors.
  • Review plans, schedules, or design updates and summarize key impacts for the PMO.
  • Conduct site walks with the PMO Director or project leads when appropriate.

General PMO Responsibilities

  • Maintain organized project documentation and version control.
  • Help develop project schedule drafts or updates using PMO tools.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation planning.
  • Perform research on best practices or regulatory considerations related to hospital operations and infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of PMO processes and templates.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Project Management, Healthcare Administration, Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical, administrative, and technical teams.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in accordance with hospital and HIPAA standards.

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Experience with project management tools (Microsoft Project, Planner, or similar).
  • Interest in healthcare operations.

Duration & Schedule

  • Duration: Typically, 10–12 weeks or aligned with academic semesters (flexible).
  • Schedule: Temporary position. Hours are flexible with interns' class schedule; however, expectations are that all applicants have availability during the regular workweek between 8 am and 5 pm. Some work may occur on project sites.
  • Compensation: Base compensation $16.25/hr.
