DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation’s largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research. RIM also operates 31 outpatient sites throughout southeast Michigan specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics.
Job Summary
The Nurse Extern I (NE I) is a member of the patient care services team with primary responsibilities for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The NE I is assigned to work under the supervision of a registered nurse who delegates tasks based upon patient needs and NE I skills and abilities. The NE I will report all deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse. It is recognized that specific patient care tasks may vary widely in type and frequency from unit to unit or across service lines, based on the nature of the patient population being served. Students hired as Nurse Extern I have the job duties of a patient care tech or equivalent role.
Completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course through an accredited school of nursing.
Students must successfully pass all courses to remain in the program.
