About the Role

Job Purpose

 

Do you want to make a difference in reducing energy and carbon emissions and improving sustainability? This position will play a role in developing sustainability programs at altafiber and Hawaiian Telcom, furthering implementation of our climate action plans; researching supply chain sustainability and waste avoidance (material circularity); developing energy efficiency projects; working on LEED green building/office projects and doing data analysis in support of sustainability.

 

Essential Functions

 

The intern will work on real-world environmental sustainability programs in direct support of the Director of Sustainability and indirect support of altafiber and Hawaiian Telcom’s network, real estate/facilities, marketing, and fleet management professionals. The intern’s work will be project-based, with multiple projects to work on throughout the course of the internship, with regular guidance, support and accountability. The type and number of projects will be agreed to at the beginning of the internship between the intern and the Director of Sustainability from a list of on-going project needs. The intern could work to reduce the company’s carbon emissions and waste streams (material circularity), certify LEED offices, inventory Scope 3 emissions, and track on-going projects to reduce Scope 1 & 2 emissions, depending on skills and interest.  

 

Education

  • At least a rising junior in an undergraduate program or graduate student
  • Coursework or work experience related to sustainability

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional communications including phone calls, emails and in-person interactions
  • Proficiency in common software programs including Microsoft Office products (word, excel, PowerPoint), and web-based tools
  • Experience with data analysis
  • Pursuit of a science, business analytics, or engineering degree preferred
