About the Role

We are looking for a Science summer trainee, hands-on prototyping to join our Weather Research and Technology at Vaisala headquarters in Vantaa, Finland. Spend your summer at Vaisala turning your ideas into real weather measurement prototypes and measurements, working hands-on in our Vantaa labs with expert scientists.

What will your summer look like? 

  • Building your own learning prototypes with pioneering technology, and documenting and presenting the results. 

  • Getting hands-on laboratory testing experience by setting up a test plan and conducting measurements in Vaisala laboratory facilities, first indoors and then potentially outdoors. 

  • Conducting lab measurements with oscilloscope. Identifying weather-related signals and waves.  

  • Build own measurement setup to replicate weather phenomena.  

  • Investigate instruments’ response to weather signals. Concrete proof of concept prototype to demonstrate the measurement capability and sensitivity.  

  • Working with Scientist colleagues as part of the multi-disciplinary Vaisala Weather and Environment Science team. 

  • Working at Vaisala headquarters in Vantaa. A major part of the work requires presence in the office and labs, while minor parts of data analysis can be carried out remotely. 

 

What will you bring? 

  • 3+ year student for example in electrical engineering or measurement technologies.  

  • Familiar with laboratory equipment, e.g. signal generators and oscilloscopes.  

  • Understanding of signal generation, signal processing and use of calculation tools such matlab, python.  

  • Some skills in algorithm development is an advantage.  

  • Interest in laboratory testing 

  • Curiosity and research-mindset
