Education Intern 

Kids’ Food Basket | Kent County | Summer 2026 | Temporary/Seasonal 


Kids’ Food Basket (KFB) was founded to nourish children to reach their full potential. We are a community-based food equity nonprofit supporting our West Michigan neighbors in Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, and Allegan counties who are under-resourced and impacted by poverty and food insecurity. Our services include our flagship Sack Supper program, sustainable farming, community food distributio,n and educational programming.  


KFB is now serving 11,000 weekday evening meals to 68 schools in four counties. We work toward a future in which all children have access to the nourishment that fosters their lifelong health and limitless potential.    


The Education Intern plays a hands-on role in bringing our mission to life through nutrition education, urban agriculture and youth empowerment. If you’re energized by teaching, community engagement and learning alongside passionate educators, this summer internship may be for you. 


What You’ll Do 

As an Education Intern, you’ll support educational programming across West Michigan, helping children, families and community members connect food, health and equity. You will: 

  • Assist with interactive education lessons focused on nutrition, agriculture and community wellness for youth and adults 
  • Support youth empowerment programming and classroom-style activities in diverse settings 
  • Serve as a Kids’ Food Basket ambassador, sharing our mission and raising awareness of food insecurity locally and statewide 
  • Participate in community outreach events and collaborate with partner organizations focused on food and health equity 
  • Support education initiatives across Kent, Ottawa, Allegan and Muskegon counties, including regional travel 
  • Assist with lesson preparation and clean-up, including food prep, printing, packing and organizing supplies 
  • Help track program activities, outcomes and documentation in internal systems 
  • Support scheduling, calendar coordination and administrative tasks related to education programming 
  • Assist with grant-related research in collaboration with the Education Manager and grants team 
  • Contribute to events and initiatives that address disparities and improve outcomes in under-resourced communities 

What You’ll Bring 

Curious, dependable and community-minded, you bring: 

  • A high school diploma (associate degree preferred) 
  • At least two years of experience leading or speaking in front of groups 
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regionally 
  • Comfort facilitating lessons, leading activities and engaging groups of all ages 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Adobe or Canva a plus) 
  • Interest in nutrition education, urban farming, gardening or food systems 
  • A welcoming, optimistic approach and ability to build positive relationships 
  • Respect for and ability to work with people from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds 
  • A desire to learn more about hunger, food equity and community health in West Michigan
