Description
CHEST is looking for motivated and talented individuals to join our team under our internship program for Summer 2026. The goal of this program is to help further develop your skills in a professional business setting, better preparing you for your future career.
As an intern, you will be working closely with a supervisor who will provide you with real hands-on projects and daily tasks. Interns will be able to apply classroom-based knowledge to projects and gain essential skills needed to be career-ready. CHEST interns will have the opportunity to CRUSH LUNG DISEASE by working alongside experienced, passionate professionals in a flexible, innovative, mission-driven hybrid environment.
CHEST is dedicated to developing our staff, and we strive to make this internship as realistic and informative as possible.
The HR Intern will work closely with the Human Resources team learning the ins and outs of managing the day-to-day people operations activities which will include benefits, recruitment and HRIS management. Our HR internship is geared to a student interested in a generalist role or more specifically interested in HR technology and HR operations.
HR Intern Duties and Responsibilities:
- Act as internship cohort leader – Ensure that interns take advantage of all engagement and enrichment opportunities and have all necessary support regarding final presentations.
- Assist with recruiting, benefits, people analytics as needed
- Learn about collaborative relationships that HR has with adjacent departments such as legal, finance and IT
- Utilize HR resources such as webinars and industry-specific reference texts to build specific skills, reporting back to team on key takeaways
- Assist HR team in researching trends (market analysis, policy/compliance, recognition, benefits, etc.)
- Assist in filing paper files/clean up (personnel/benefit files, I9s, term files, etc.)
- Work within HRIS to streamline data/clear out checklists/old learning, etc.
- Participate in onboarding new employees.
- Proofread HR documents
- Support all other projects as assigned.
Requirements
Required Skills/Competencies:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with a major in HR, English, Communications or related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong relationship building skills
- Empathy and tact, ability to interact thoughtfully with employees at all levels.
- Technical aptitude
- Eagerness to learn
Additional Information:
The hourly pay for this position is $20 per hour. This position is anticipated to work up to 30 hours per week, in a hybrid work environment.
