We’re looking for a Software Engineer Trainee to join the Sokos Hotels team in Helsinki for a fixed-term role from June 1st to September 11th. The role is designed as a starting point for an early career software engineer, with the aim of continuing in a junior role after the trainee period.
Sokos Hotels is part of the SOK Digital Development community, where we develop web services and apps for the whole S Group, digitalising the S Group services. Your future team includes engineers, designers, and business, all working together as a team. This is a great chance to learn from experienced professionals and start your career as software engineer. In our hybrid working model, the team works at least two days a week at our Ässäkeskus office, however trainees and their mentors typically meet at the office even more.
About the job
As a trainee, you’ll step into real product development from day one, owning features, improving quality, and learning by building for thousands of guests together with your team.
You’ll have the opportunity to work hands-on on the Sokos Hotels mobile app and other parts of the digital hotel experience, with responsibilities shaped by your strengths and interests. A key focus of the role is mobile app development, working with React Native, TypeScript, and GraphQL as part of a modern, productiongrade application used by hundreds of thousands of customers.
Depending on your interests, you can also expand your scope beyond mobile development. You may contribute to frontend development using React and TypeScript, or explore backend development, where we build services using cloudnative architectures on AWS. There is also an opportunity to grow your skills in Go (Golang) and backend technologies as part of the team’s development work.
Throughout the summer, you’ll work side by side with experienced engineers who will mentor you, pair program with you, review your code, and hands-on guidance to help you grow as a software developer.

You are curious and analytical, and you communicate effectively in English. You love to build products and solve problems. You see software engineering as a team sport. Working with others is your preferred way to get things done. As our Trainee we expect you to be approaching the end of your engineering studies, and through that a basic understanding of software engineering. While we don’t require prior work experience from the field, all experience in coding counts as your advantage – especially experience in mobile React Native or experience in backend development in the AWS environment.
What are we looking for?
You’re curious, analytical, and comfortable communicating in English. You enjoy building products, solving problems, and learning through collaboration. You see software engineering as a team sport and prefer working together to create great products.
You’re likely approaching the end of your engineering studies and have a basic understanding of software engineering principles. We’re looking for trainees who are interested in continuing their journey with us as Junior Software Engineer after the summer, based on performance and mutual fit.
While prior professional experience isn’t required, any hands-on coding experience is a plus — especially experience in mobile development with React Native or backend development in an AWS environment. Above all, you’re motivated to learn, grow, and take your first steps towards a longer-term role as a software professional.
