About the Role

Software Engineering Intern

Location: Rochester, NY 

Department: Software Engineering 

Reports To: Christopher Supranowitz, Software Engineering Team Lead

Position Summary

QED Technologies is looking for a motivated Software Engineering Intern to join our team for the upcoming term. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of sophisticated hardware and high-performance software. You will assist in developing, testing, and maintaining software applications that drive our world-class CNC optical polishing and metrology equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Feature Development: Assist in designing and implementing new software features under the mentorship of senior engineers.
  • Testing & QA: Develop and execute manual and automated tests to ensure software reliability and performance.
  • Bug Resolution: Identify, document, and resolve software defects in a collaborative team environment.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear technical documentation for software designs and user interfaces (working alongside our Documentation Specialist-Intern).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Controls, Mechanical, and Optics engineers to understand system requirements and hardware-software integration.

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in at least one major language (e.g., C++, C#, or Java). Experience with .NET frameworks is a plus.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex logical issues.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and team updates.
  • Mindset: A proactive learner with a genuine interest in precision engineering or robotics.
