About the Role

General Summary

We are currently seeking a Summer Legal Intern for the Development and Community Relations Department. The schedule will be approximately 35 – 40 hours per week, beginning in June of 2026 and ending in August (dates can be customized further to suit). The intern will be working closely with Team in various activities related to the development of Newport in Jersey City, NJ.  

LeFrak affiliates own and manage an extensive portfolio of real property concentrated in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area, as well as South Florida, Los Angeles and throughout the West Coast. Although we focus on the residential and office sectors, LeFrak affiliates also invest in numerous hospitality and retail assets.


Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Review of legal documents involving a variety of issues including environmental law, property rights, municipal law, contracts, and land use.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Prepare memorandum summarizing legal issues, case law, applicabel regulations,  and providing recommended course(s) of action.
  • Work with the development team to secure land use approvals.
  • Interface with governmental officials to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Identify potential legal issues associated with development projects.
  • Review environmental reports and due diligence memorandums to support development team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:   

  • Must be pursuing a Law Degree; rising 3L is preferred
  • Interest and / or experience in land use, regulatory, property, municipal, and/or environmental law
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Excel is required
  • Experience with online legal research (Westlaw, Lexis, etc.) is required
  • Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks
